"This discovery is exceptional for two reasons," Richard Jonvel, an archeologist who helped find the sword, told local media 3 Hauts-de-France. Read more Ancient Maya "deity of death" sculpture unearthed in Mexico If most of the known swords come from rivers, Amiens' one has the peculiarity of having been found during an archaeological excavation on the ground," the museum's Facebook post reads. "The discovery of a complete sword is a relatively rare event in medieval archeology. The sword was found to be around 38 inches long and weigh 1.8 pounds, and is thought to be a versatile weapon, used to both swipe at opponents and defend against blows. So this is a naked, but straight sword, that was abandoned in the medieval trenches of Amiens before the 15th century." The current curve profile of the blade is due to the conditions of its release. The good preservation of these elements suggests that, if the sword had been rejected with its sheath, traces of it would have been observed. A leather hat ensured the stability of the guard and protected the entrance of the kiln from rain. The handle was surrounded by two very thin wooden insoles, covered with rope for better grip. "However, their state of fragility does not allow them to be presented. "Coming out of the ancient trenches of the town of Amiens, completed in the 15th century, this sword is in such an outstanding condition that the leather and wood that originally complemented it could have been taken with it," the Musée de Picardie wrote in a translated Facebook post announcing the sword's display. Improving the patient experience of vaccination will be an equally important part of ensuring effective preparation for, and reaction to, pathogenic disease. However, amidst this fervent vaccine development activity, the second of those global challenges identified by the WHO, i.e., ‘vaccine hesitancy’, should not be forgotten. This impressive reaction will doubtless improve future readiness for, and response to, a wide range of potentially pandemic pathogens. A range of new vaccine technologies as well as processes to accelerate their development, testing, and implementation have emerged out of the remarkable global response to coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In 2019, the WHO identified an ‘influenza pandemic’ and ‘vaccine hesitancy’ as two of the top ten challenges to global health. These include needle and syringe techniques, microneedles, DNA tattooing, jet and ballistic delivery, and skin permeabilization techniques, including thermal ablation, chemical enhancers, ablation, electroporation, iontophoresis, and sonophoresis. This review will provide an overview of the diverse range of vaccination techniques available to target the dermal compartment, as well as their current state, challenges, and prospects, and touch upon the formulations that have been developed to maximally benefit from these new techniques. Vaccination into this dermal compartment offers a way of addressing both of the challenges presented by the WHO, as well as opening up avenues for novel vaccine formulation and dose-sparing strategies to enter the clinic. ![]() The skin is a unique vaccination site, due to its immune-rich milieu, which is evolutionarily primed to respond to challenge, and its ability to induce both humoral and cellular immunity. Co-workers often feel awkward by declining to participate in office holiday events. If your office organizes an office holiday gift exchange, rather than asking team members to opt in, place a sign-up sheet for those who want to participate. Related: 5 Ways To Encourage Employee Volunteer Programs During the Holidays Provide sign-up sheets for office engagements A nice card, signed by all team members is a nice alternative to giving gifts to superiors and executive management. Asking them to give money under those conditions is asking for trouble. Many employees often feel they are neglected, underpaid, and not appreciated by the executives. Team members also may resent giving to someone who makes more money than they do. Not to mention, they may worry how it will affect their long-term relationship with the company. They may worry about their image and whether their co-workers would think differently about them. There is always at least one person strapped for cash who won't be able to donate. This violates the above rule - gifts flow downhill - and it causes hurt feelings and misunderstanding among team members. Yet, these notions are the furthest thing from the truth. It reduces the money each person spends, provides the opportunity for the office to show their appreciation, and prevents you from looking like a kiss up. This idea may seem like a great solution to office holiday gifts. Giving gifts often mean they are expected to reciprocate, even if this isn't your intent. They may not be in the position to return the sentiment and worry about the response. On the other hand, consider the implications of giving gifts to those subordinate to you. Keep your gift thoughtful and modest and spending a few extra dollars isn't going to win you points with the top dog. Here are two things to consider before giving a gift to your boss. Giving office holiday gifts to your boss is fine but not necessary. The point is to take other's feelings and desires into account. Ask them what employees did in recent years. Ask a trusted colleague - someone who has been there for a few years - how they feel about gift giving. Many employees simply don't have the extra cash or don't want to offend those who don't celebrate religious holidays. Some company cultures avoid the gift-giving season and don't exchange office holiday gifts at all. Ask whether you're allowed to give gifts and if there are any rules to abide by. Human resources is also a great place to start. Ask your supervisor and co-workers about the office protocols. Either the office limits the cash value of the gift, organizes Dirty Santa or White Elephant, or maybe prohibited gift-giving altogether. Many companies have solved this problem for you with gift exchange rules. Determine what the office rules and culture dictate With a little planning and a lot of holiday spirit, you should come out of the store with the perfect gift - without breaking the bank. There is a dispute about who came up with the idea of the Thunderbird’s hard tonneau cover. After that, the hard tonneau soon became an authorized project. The next thing Kaufman and Nelson knew, Walker came to the Ford studio to talk to Oros. He was delighted and hung it on the wall of his office. When finished, they presented the illustration to Walker. Kallman included Kaufman in the illustration explaining the concept to Walker, with a “pensive” Joe Oros in the background next to Lewis Crusoe, former head of Ford Division. The illustration showed a 3/4 view of a red ’61 Thunderbird with people all around it parked at the Greenbriar resort. Nelson drew the car in the illustration, Kallman did the rest. They decided to make a really great illustration of their proposal and present it to George Walker, head of the Styling Center, to hang on his office wall. Clever PloyĪlthough Kaufman and Nelson were disappointed, Nelson suggested a ploy Ned Nichols, his old boss at GM, had used to get his pet projects noticed. Oros listened, then told Kaufman the project was done without authorization, to stop work on it, and to destroy the model. When Oros returned, Kaufman showed the model to him and explained how it worked. So they made a fully detailed and painted small clay model of their proposal. Joe Oros was on vacation at the time, and Kaufman and Nelson knew they would have to have it done by the time he returned because it wasn’t an authorized project. Kaufman thought it was a great idea, so Nelson made a full-sized tape drawing of it. Nelson then told Kaufman one way to solve the problem was to cover the back seat with a fiberglass panel to create the illusion the 4-passenger Thunderbird was really a 2-passenger vehicle. They both thought there was still a market for a 2-passenger Thunderbird.
